고령 운전자의 페달 혼동 예방을 위한 시각적 보조장치 개발 및 효과성 분석

Development and Effectiveness Analysis of a Visual Assistive Device for Preventing Pedal Confusion in Elderly Drivers

연구목적: 본 연구는 페달 혼동 사고를 예방하기 위한 시각적 보조장치를 개발하고, 그 효과성과 필요성을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구방법: 본 연구의 연구 대상은 페달 혼동을 경험한 고령 운전자 5명으로, 자가 보고식 운전 평가 도구인 SAFE-DR(Self-report Assessment Forecasting Elderly Driving Risk)와 사용 의향에 관한 설문 조사, 페달 혼동 경험에 대한 인터뷰를 통해 분석하였다. 연구결과: 페달 혼동을 경험한 운전자들의 자가 보고식 평가 결과, 모든 대상자가 매일 복용하는 약물이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 작은 글씨를 읽는 어려움, 후진 및 복잡한 교차로에서의 어려움, 그리고 브레이크를 빠르게 밟는 것에 대한 어려움을 호소하였다.시각적 보조장치에 대한 설문조사에서는 모든 응답자가 해당 장치를 사용을 희망했으며, 이 장치가 페달 혼동을 예방하는 데 도움이 될 것이라고 긍정 응답하였다. 결론: 본 연구 결과, 시각적 보조장치는 고령 운전자의 페달 혼동 가능성을 감소시키는 데 기여할 수 있음을 보여주었으며, 이를 통해 교통사고 예방과 운전자 안전성 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a visual assistive device to prevent pedal confusion accidents and analyze its effectiveness and necessity. Methods : The study participants consisted of five elderly drivers who had experienced pedal confusion, and the analysis was conducted using the self-report driving assessment tool, SAFE-DR (Self-report Assessment Forecasting Elderly Driving Risk), as well as a survey on willingness to use the device and interviews regarding their experiences with pedal confusion. Results : The self-reported assessments of the drivers who had experienced pedal confusion revealed that all participants were taking medications daily. Additionally, they reported difficulties with reading small print, reversing, navigating through complex intersections, and quickly pressing the brake pedal. In the survey on the visual assistive device, all respondents expressed a willingness to use the device and indicated that they believed it would help prevent pedal confusion. Conclusion : This study developed a visual aid device to prevent pedal confusion among elderly drivers and analyzed its effectiveness and necessity based on feedback from drivers who had experienced pedal confusion. The findings suggest that the visual aid device can contribute to reducing the likelihood of pedal confusion in elderly drivers, thereby positively impacting traffic accident prevention and driver safety.
