Analysis of the Effectiveness of Saemaul Development Project in Myanmar Using Saemaul Development Approach

This study analyzes the effectiveness of a Saemaul Development Project in Myanmar modeled after Korea's Saemaul Undong. The study defines Saemaul Development based on the success factors of the Saemaul Undong and sets the goal of Saemaul Development as the eradication of multidimensional poverty in rural areas of developing countries. Using data collected from experimental and control villages in rural Myanmar for empirical analysis, this study specifically presents the positive impact of Saemaul Development on poverty reduction in rural Myanmar. The findings of this study imply the applicability of the Saemaul Undong for rural development policy formulation in developing countries.

이 연구는 한국의 새마을운동을 모델로 한 미얀마 농촌 지역 공동체 개발 사업의 효과성을 분석하고 객관적으로 증명하고자 하였다. 이 연구는 새마을개발 사업을 새마을운동 성공요인을 바탕으로 정의하고 새마을개발의 목표를 개도국 농촌의 다차원 빈곤 퇴치로 설정하였다. 실증 분석을 위해 미얀마 농촌 지역의 실험 마을과 비교 대조 마을에서 수집한 데이터를 활용, 이를 통해 새마을개발이 미얀마 농촌의 빈곤 감소에 미친 긍정적 영향을 구체적으로 제시하였다. 연구 결과는 미얀마 등 개발도상국 농촌 개발 정책 수립에 있어 새마을운동의 적용 가능성을 시사한다.
