사진의 교육적 역량 탐색 : 벤야민의 관점에서

An inquiry on the educational power of the photograph from Walter Benjamin's perspective

이 논문은 ‘사진이 어떤 교육적 역량을 가지는가’에 대한 것이다. 그동안 교육의 맥락에서 사진은 주로 교육 자료로서만 활용되어 왔다. 그러나 사진의 활용 범위를 한정하는 것은 사진의 역량을 축소시킬 우려가 있으므로 여기서는 사진의 모든 실천영역을 논의에 포함함으로써 그 역량을 온전히 드러내고자 하였다. 연구자들은 사진의 역량을 통해 그것이 가지는 교육적 역량을 탐색하였는데, 이를 위해 모든 문화적 표현이 현실의 이데올로기를 보여주는 프리즘이라고 생각한 벤야민의 관점을 차용함으로써 사진의 역량을 온전히 드러내는데 도움을 받고자 하였다. 여기서 밝힌 사진의 역량은 구조에 의해 은폐된 상징의 인식, 비판·선동·투쟁의 원동력으로서의 비평, 표현·구성·관점의 창작 등이다. 사진의 이러한 역량은 기존의 활용 범위에서 탈피하여 보다 폭넓은 시각에서 사진을 다룸으로써 얻을 수 있는 것이었는데, 이러한 사진의 역량들은 현재의 인식을 넘어서는 해석적·비평적·창의적 시각을 요구한다는 점에서 사진이 가지는 교육적 역량이라고 할 수 있다. 이로써 기존에 사진의 교육적 역량을 ‘지식의 전수’에 한정했던 것에서 벗어나 ‘판단을 지향’하는 일에까지 논의의 범위를 확장시킬 수 있다. 그렇다면 이제 우리는 교육을 훈육적 주체의 형성으로 보던 데서 벗어나 기존의 양식이 가지는 아우라에서 탈피하는 ‘대항-주체의 형성’이라고 규정할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the power of the photograph, and to answer how educational concept can be related to this power. In educational context, the photograph usually has been used in a narrow educational sense. In this paper, however, several utilities of the photograph was explored to find out what could be benefitted in all kinds of practical educational settings. Researchers found that the photograph's abilities would be shown in full when its usage area is not restricted, and furthermore, the abilities of education's artistic aspect can be shown by this process. From this point of view, this paper borrowed Walter Benjamin's thought, that the prism of all cultural expression shows realistic ideology. The deconstruction of the hidden structure, the competence of the critic leading the effect political praxis, and the creation of new effects and perception are the educational powers of the photograph. Using the photograph in different usage settings helps us to more clearly display the artistic aspect of education and also to broaden the educational scholastic horizon. The argument about the power of the photograph brings about the change of one's view and rescues him from a narrow delivery of knowledge. Then, we can achieve "he formation of counter-subject" with the collapse of an old fashioned aura.
