사범대학 학생들의 삶에 관한 내러티브 연구

A narrative inquiry into the lived experience of prospective teachers

이 연구의 목적은 사범대학 학생들의 삶에 대한 이해이다. 연구 목적을 수행하기 위해 연구자가 제기한 구체적인 연구 문제는 첫째, ‘K대학교 사범대학 학생들은 사범대학생으로서 갖는 경험에 대해 어떠한 이야기를 말하는가?’, 둘째, ‘K대학교 사범대학 학생들이 사범대학생으로서 갖는 경험에 대해 말한 이야기는 어떠한 의미를 지니는가?’이다. 연구자는 사범대학 학생들의 삶을 이해하기 위해 3명의 연구 참여자들의 경험을 연구하였고, 이 과정에서 내러티브 탐구(narrative inquiry) 방법을 사용하였다. 연구자는 연구 참여자들의 성찰적 경험을 수집하고 분석하면서, 그들이 공유된 이야기적 삶을 살아가고 있다는 것을 알게 되었다. 이에 따라 수집된 자료들은 사범대학생으로서 연구 참여자들이 공유하고 있는 주요 의미들을 바탕으로 ‘연어의 삶’으로 비유되는 하나의 일관성 있는 이야기적 텍스트로 재구성되었다. 연구자는 본 연구를 통해 사범대학 학생들은 ‘예비 교사로서 나는 누구이며, 무엇을 믿으며, 무엇을 어떻게 해야 하는가?’하는 존재론적 물음을 끊임없이 하고 있었고, 이를 통해 부단히 성장하고 있음을 알게 되었다. 또한 교사다운 방식으로 살아가기를 꿈꾸는 연구자에게, 본 연구는 가르치는 일에 대한 이해를 확장하는 좋은 계기가 되었다. The purpose of this small, in-depth, study is to generate insights into our understanding of the experience, thoughts, and actions that pervaded the everyday lives of prospective teachers as they enter the pre-service teacher education program. A major goal of this inquiry was to describe the lived experiences of three prospective teachers and gain a deeper understanding of them. The methodology employed in this research draws from the traditions of narrative inquiry. As data were collected and analyzed, it was discovered that the lived experiences of all the participants were interrelated enough to allow the development of a well-plotted life story. So the collected data were reconstructed into one consistent story based on the shared meanings of the narrative experiences by the three prospective teachers. I, as the author of the study, incessantly attempted to investigate the ontological queries on the identity of students in the College of Education, which is exemplified as ‘Who am I as a preliminary teacher and therefore what should I believe and do?’ In the end, this study afforded me the chance to rethink my own identity more clearly. Such kind of endeavor provided a good opportunity for myself who dream to live a fulfilling life as a teacher. It also enabled me to enlarge my scope of thinking and thereby enhance the understanding of teaching as a vocation.
