존재론적 탐구로서의 저널쓰기: 예비교사의 자기 정체성 형성 이야기

Journal writing as an ontological inquiry: A story of a pre-service teacher's identity shaping

이 글에서 필자는 예비교사로서의 정체성 형성을 주제로 이루어진 저널쓰기를 통해 자기 정체성을 실존적 힘과 언어로 형성해가는 현주(가명)의 존재 여정을 이야기한다. 현주는 저널을 써 나가면서 지금까지 자신의 삶의 여정에서 공부란 것이 억압적인 세상으로부터 자신을 방어하는 유일한 수단으로 존재해왔음을 자각하고, 계속적인 저널쓰기를 통해 공부를 세상과 함께 소통하면서 대화적 존재 의미를 찾아가는 경험으로 받아들인다. 사실 현주의 저널은 세상과 마주하고자 하는 간절함과 함께 그러한 대면적 체험에 대한 두려움 사이의 긴장이 지속적으로 전개되는 과정에서 끝이 난다. 하지만 그녀의 저널은 그러한 긴장의 연장선 위에서 여기저기 흩어진 자신의 단편적인 삶의 퍼즐들을 자신만의 일관된 의미로 꿰어내려는 탐색적 몸부림이 고스란히 담겨져 있다. 그녀에게 있어서 존재론적 탐구 공간으로서의 저널쓰기는 나-세계, 나의 과거-현재-미래를 실존적 힘과 언어로 소통시키고 꿰어가면서 가장 자기다운, 그러면서도 가장 대화적인 삶의 텍스트를 창조하는 힘을 부여하도록 도왔다는 점에서 의미와 중요성을 가진다. 이 글에서 필자는 예비교사들의 바람직한 자기 정체성 형성을 돕고자 하는 교사교육자들에게 존재론적 탐구로서의 저널쓰기의 과정, 실체, 의미, 방법을 함께 공유하고자 한다. This paper is a storied account of a pre-service elementary teacher, Hyeonju (pseudonym) who has shaped her self-identity of becoming an educator with her own existential power and language in a space of reflective journal writing. In the first part of her story, she wrote of becoming aware that learning in her life has continued to exist as the only means to defend herself against the oppressive, alienating world. As she continued, she made another existential discovery that learning is an experience of threading a dialogical life text between I-The World. However, her journal writing has come to an end in the midst of the constant tension between her eagerness for the dialogicality and the fear of facing it. Her journal writing is understood as an inquiring struggle to thread her disconnected multiple selves scattered here and there in the past like lost puzzles in a coherent dialogical life meaning. As an ontological inquiry, her journal writing has meaning and significance in that it enabled her to knit the most unique and dialogical life text with her own language party by going between herself and the world in which she is situated, and partly by going between her past, future, and present. Ultimately, this paper is meant to share the process, reality, meaning, and method of pre-service teachers’ journal writing with the teacher educators whose interest lies in the shaping of pre-service teachers’ self-identity.
