초등 영재아동의 완벽주의 성향에 대한질적 사례연구

A Qualitative Case Study on the Perfectionism of TwoElementary Gifted Students

본 연구는 완벽주의 성향을 나타내는 영재아동을 이해하기 위한 노력의 일환으로, 질적 사례연구 기법을 활용하여 완벽주의 성향을 보이는 초등 영재학생 두 명의 행동 양상 및 사례를 구체적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구 참여자와 참여자의 어머니, 영재교육 담당교사 및 담임교사와 심층면담을 진행하였으며, 영재 수업에서의 산출물, 관찰 기록지 등의 자료를 수집하여 참여자들을 종합적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 높은 인지적 발달 수준을 보이는 두 학생은 완벽주의 성향에 수반되는 다양한 반응을 나타내었는데, 높은 성취 목표와 실수에 대한 염려, 자신에게 많은 의무 부여하기, 비판적인 사고와 태도로 인한 또래 관계의 어려움, 학교와 가정에서 다르게 반응하는 스트레스 등의 행동 특성을 보였다. 이들은 성취에 지나치게 의존한 높은 기준에서 시작하여 실수나 실패에 대한 두려움을 느끼고 높은 자기 조절을 하며, 자기 평가를 통해 다시 목표를 높여가는 과정을 반복하였고, 이러한 과정을 통해 완벽주의 성향이 지속되고 있었다. 또한, 이러한 완벽주의 성향은 부모와 환경의 영향을 받고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과와 관련하여 실천적 함의가 심도있게 논의되었다. The purpose of the present qualitative case study is to understand gifted students who embrace perfectionism. This study focuses on their behaviors related to their perfectionist disposition. For the study, two gifted students were observed and interviewed over an 8-month period. In addition, their mothers, regular class room teachers, and gifted education teacher were interviewed in depth. Results show that the two students with high cognitive ability exhibited different types of behavior caused by perfectionism, such as setting achievement goals too high, abnormal worry about failure, taking on more tasks than can be handled, relationship difficulties with peers caused by their critical attitudes, and different stress reactions at home and school. In addition, their perfectionism has been maintained by the biased evaluation of the pursuit and achievement of personally demanding standards. Their perfectionism has also been encouraged by their parents and environment. Practical implications related to the results of the study have been discussed in depth.
