Effects of abuse and neglect on smartphone addiction: Mediating effects of child depression and impulsiveness

The main purpose of this study is to verify whether smartphone addiction caused by parental abuse and neglect has a mediating effect on depression and impulsivity. This study was conducted from May 2 to May 31, 2024, and the subjects of the study were 263 questionnaires from elementary school students aged 10 to 11 in D City. The results of the study are as follows : First, parental abuse and neglect were found to affect smartphone addiction, depression, and impulsivity. Second, parental abuse and neglect were found to have an significant effect on smartphone addiction through depression and impulsivity. Based on these research results, the significance of this study is to provide basic data for developing a parent education program that can help build a stable parenting system and develop proper smartphone usage habits.
