The Effect of the Well-Dying Education Program on Knowledge, Attitudes and Intention to Write Advance Directives, and Intention to Donate Organs in Older Adults of the Community
- 156
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of a well-dying education program on knowledge, attitudes and intentions to write advance directives (AD), as well as intentions to donate organs among older adults over 60 who are able to live independently. Methods: The participants were 59 older adults residing in Y-si, Gyeonggi-do. The experimental group participated in the well-dying education program, which consisted of 60-minute sessions once a week for four weeks, while the control group completed a questionnaire at different times. Results: After the program, the experimental group showed a significantly higher knowledge score of AD compared with the control group (t=-7.58, p<.001). However, there were no significant differences in attitudes or intentions to write AD and donate organs. Conclusion: The well-dying education program effectively increased AD knowledge among older adults, providing foundational data for developing customized well-dying education programs in the Y city area.
