Purpose: The global rise in suicide rates among older adults has emerged as a significant social issue, particularly pronounced among those living alone compared with those residing with family. This study compares the effects of physical, emotional, and social conditions on the suicide risk between these two groups. Methods: We conducted a descriptive survey involving 109 older adults living alone and 101 living with their families within the community. Results: The data show that 22.9% of older adults living alone and 9.9% of those living with families are in the high-risk group for suicide. Older adults living alone face a higher suicide risk than those living with family. Factors such as depression, participation in social activities, and exercise were identified as influencing the suicide risk among older adults living alone, while depression also affects those living with families. Conclusion: The findings highlight the crucial role of family in reducing suicide risk among older adults and suggest the need for leveraging social support systems when family support is absent.
