학사경고 대학생의 대학생활의 어려움에 대한 내러티브 탐구: 사회적 관계를 중심으로

A Narrative Inquiry into University Students' Difficulty of Campus Life who are Placed under Academic Probation: Focus on Social Relations

본 연구는 학사경고 대학생이 대학생활을 하면서 경험하는 어려움을 사회적 관계를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 학사경고 경험이 2회 이상이며, 대학생활 중 특히 사회적 관계에 어려움을 느끼는 대학생 2명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였으며, 이들의 경험을 내러티브 탐구방법을 통해 살펴보았다. 대학에서는 학사경고의 원인을 일반적으로 '학습부진'으로 낙인찍는 암묵적 분위기가 존재한다. 그러나 연구 참여자인 두 학생의 이야기를 통해, 이들이 학업에 집중하지 못하고 대학생활에 적응하지 못하는 데에는, '사회적 관계' 형성의 어려움이 큰 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 대학생의 학업 전념과 대학생활 지속에 영향을 미치는 선행요인인 지지체계로서 기능하는 '사회적 관계'는 매우 중요한 요소이다. 연구참여자들은 지지체계로서 기능하는 사회적 관계의 형성에서 취약한 양상을 보이고 있었다. 본 연구에서 드러난 연구 참여자들의 이야기를 통해, 학사경고 대학생들을 학습동기 부족이나 학습부진 학습자로 판단하고 획일적인 지원이 이루어지는 기존의 관점에 변화가 필요함을 알 수 있다. 또한 연구 참여자들과 같이 사회적 관계 형성 과정에서 어려움을 느끼는 학사경고 대학생들이 사회적 지지체계를 형성할 수 있도록 돕는 접근이 필요함을 시사한다. This study inquires into the difficulty of campus life of two university students who are placed under academic probation with focus on their social relations. The study had been examined by the narrative inquiry method targeting two university students who were placed under academic probation twice and complained about the difficulty to build social relation in the university. There is a tacit atmosphere that the reason to be placed under academic probation is considered as commonly being 'an underachieving student' in the university. However, experiences from two student participants show that the difficulty of 'social relation' formation has appeared in their study and campus life. The 'social relation' is a very important factor functioning as a supportive system, which is a precedence factor to have an effect on study concentration and campus life maintenance. This study has recognized that it is necessary to change the existing viewpoint of offering standardized supports to university students who were placed under academic probation. Moreover, the study is suggesting that the approach of helping students who have trouble in forming social relations like study groups to build social support system is needed.
