한 호주 놀이터의 물질성을 통해 본 놀이의 의미에 대한 포토에세이 연구

A Study on a Photo Essay about the Meaning of Play through the Materiality of an Australian Playground

이 연구는 한 호주 놀이터의 물질성 분석을 통해 호주 놀이터의 특징을 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 그곳에서 생성되는 신체의 운동성과 놀이의 의미를 이해하기 위한 질적 연구이다. 이를 위해 호주 브리즈번에 위치한 농부놀이터(가명)를 2년에 걸쳐 3달간 관찰하였으며 농부놀이터 물질성의 중심을 이루는 모턴베이피그 나무를 중심으로 농부놀이터의 물질성을 분석하였다. 특별히, 이 연구는 놀이터의 물질성을 이해하기 위한 주요 자료로 농부놀이터의 사진을 다수 수집하고 놀이터 물질성 분석에 수집된 사진을 활용하는 포토 에세이 형식을 취하였다. 또한 농부 놀이터의 물질성을 분석함에 있어 신물질주의 관점에 기초하여 담론과 물질의 이 분법을 넘어서고자 하는 노력의 일환으로 글쓰기에서 다층적 의미구조의 형식을 취하고, 이를 농부놀이터 물질성의 핵심인 모턴베이피그 시선으로 표현하고자 했다. 연구 결과 농부놀이터는 ‘멈추지 않고 자라나는’, ‘시간을 입는’, ‘경계가 없는’, ‘어우러지는’ 물적 특성이 있음을 발견하였다. 또한 이러한 물질성을 통해 생성되는 놀이자들의 움직임은 ‘오르다’, ‘숨어들다’, ‘다양하다’로 주제화 하였다. 이를 통해 이 연구에서는 농부놀이터의 물질성을 통해 본 놀이가 ‘중심 없는 리좀’, ‘모험과 긴장의 아슬아슬함’의 의미를 가진 것으로 이해하였다. 이 연구는 우리가 그동안 놀이터를 이해함에 있어 놀이자(놀이주체)와 놀이터의 물질들(놀이대상)을 양분하던 것을 재고하게 하고, 놀이터의 사물들이 그 안에 놀이를 생성할 수 있는 세계를 포함하고 있는 행위주체성을 고려할 수 있도록 도울 것이다. This study is a qualitative research to understand the characteristics of the Australian playground by analyzing the materiality of an Australian playground and to understand the body movements that play generated there and the meaning of play. For this purpose, the Farmer-playground (alias) in Brisbane, Australia was observed for three months over the period of two years, mainly analyzing the “Moreton Bay Fig tree,” which is figuratively and literally is at the focal-center point of the playground's materiality. Specifically, this study collected a large number of pictures of Farmer-playgrounds as the main data for understanding the materiality of playgrounds, and took a photo essay format for the materiality analysis of playgrounds. As a part of efforts to overcome the dichotomy between discourse and material in taking the viewpoint of new materialism in analyzing the materiality of Farmers-playgrounds, I take the form of ‘palimpsest’ structure of Sellers in writing; I would like to express it in the Moreton Bay Fig’s voice. The study found that Farmer-playgrounds had 'unstoppable,' 'put on time,' 'borderless,' and 'mixed' physical characteristics. In addition, the movement of the players created through this materiality are subject to 'come up,' 'hiding,' and 'diversify.' Through this result, it was understood that the play seen through the materiality of the Farmers playground has the meaning of 'centerless rhizome,' 'waggling of adventure and tension.' This study reconsidered that we had dichotomy the playground and the playground‘s materials in understanding the playground, and consider the agency of materials.
