1960년대 여자상업고등학교 확대와 교육 기능 확립

The Expansion of Girls Commercial High schools and Educational Development during the 1960s in Korea

본 연구는 한국 여성 실업교육의 역사적 의의를 탐구하기 위해 1960년대 여자상업고등학교가 어떻게 실업교육기관으로 실제를 갖추게 되었는지 밝힌다. 경제개발기 여자상업고등학교는 중등교육 인구 증가, 교육과정 개정, 경제발전에 따른 여성의 경제활동 참여 확대로 큰 변화를 겪었다. 산업화 초기부터 여자상업고등학교는 급증하기 시작하여 많은 여학생에게 진학 기회를 열어 주었다. 아울러 전문교과목의 수업 시간을 전체 50%까지 확충한 2차 교육과정 시행은 실무 인재를 양성하기 위한 제도적 기초가 되었다. 주산과 부기 연습, 기능급수제, 실습, 학교은행 등 비교과과정 또한 기능습득의 실효성을 확보하기 위한 중요한 시도였다. 취업준비 교육, 기업과 연계한 ‘학교 추천’을 통한 학생 채용 등 조직적인 취업지도 체제 또한 많은 여학생을 경제활동으로 내보내는 기반이 되었다. 여자상업고등학교는 규모 확대, 교육과정 정비, 취업지도를 통해 여성의 실업학교로 그 위상을 확립해 갔다.

This study aims to investigate the establishment and expansion of girls’ commercial high schools in the 1960s, focusing on their role in advancing vocational education and reshaping women's social positions in Korea. The Korean government promoted economic development and secondary education reform during the 1960s. During the same period, girls’ commercial high schools expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively, significantly influencing educational opportunities and labor market participation of school-age women. This study examines (1) the contextual background of the establishment and operation of girls’ commercial high schools in the 1960s, (2) the effectiveness of vocational education through curriculum reform and extracurricular activities, and (3) the career trajectories and employment patterns of graduates. By analyzing primary sources, including the ‘Educational Statistics Yearbook’ and school establishment records, this research highlights the interaction between local community initiatives and government policies. This demonstrates the critical role of girls’ commercial high schools in enhancing women’s professional skiils and economic independence, offering fresh insights into the history of secondary education and women’s education in Korea.
