유산 교육을 위한 문화유산 복원의 다양성 탐색 -이탈리아 문화유산 복원 경향을 중심으로-

Exploring the Diversity in Cultural Heritage Restoration for Educational Purposes: Focusing on Trends in Italian

본 연구는 문화유산이 지닌 가치의 지속가능성을 담보하는 방안 중 교육을 통한 문화유산 복원 전문가의 양성이 필수적이라는 인식 아래 수행되었다. 문화유산 보존 분야의 선진국 중 하나인 이탈리아에서는 복원에 관하여 끊임없는 논의가 이어져 왔고, 많은 복원 학자의 복원에 대한 개별적인 견해 속에서 지역과 문화를 넘어 공유가 가능한 몇 가지 사항을 도출하였다. 문화유산 복원의 목표 및 목적은 문화유산의 물리적 생명력을 최대한 연장하여 후속 세대에게 그 가치를 온전히 전달하는 것이고, 문화유산 복원의 주요 원칙은 ‘구별 가능성’, ‘복원 개입의 가역성’, ‘표현적 진정성’, ‘최소한의 개입’, ‘물리·화학적 호환성’으로 정리할 수 있다. 한국도 문화유산 복원에 있어 서양과 많은 문화적 차이를 갖고 있으며, 이에 따라 많은 논의가 있었던 것도 사실이다. 하지만 복원에 있어 '문화유산의 존재'는 한국과 서양의 구분이 필요 없으며, ‘미래 세대로 전달’하고자 하는 의지도 동일하다. 나아가 문화유산 복원 방법론에 있어 앞에서 언급한 다섯 가지 원칙은 한국의 문화유산 복원 분야에서도 충분히 공유할 수 있는 내용이다. 따라서 한국의 문화유산 복원 전문가 양성에도 위의 사항을 바탕으로 한국 문화의 특성을 고려하여 최선의 선택을 할 수 있는 인재를 키워나가는 교육을 할 필요가 있다.

This study acknowledges the importance of education in cultivating experts in cultural heritage restoration to ensure the sustainability of its value. In Italy, a leader in cultural heritage conservation, discussions about restoration are ongoing, and scholars from various regions and cultures have identified several shared principles. Cultural heritage restoration aims to transmit value to future generations by preserving physical vitality as much as possible. The main principles of restoration include distinguishability, intervention reversibility, expressive authenticity, minimal intervention, and physical and chemical compatibility. In Korea, cultural heritage restoration has been a topic of significant discussion, with notable differences from Western approaches. However, the fundamental goal of preserving cultural heritage transcends regional boundaries, uniting the East and West with the common objective of passing these treasure to future generations. The aforementioned principles in restoration methodology are fully applicable in the Korean context. Therefore, it is essential to educate and develop Korean cultural heritage restoration experts, enabling them to make informed decisions that respect the unique characteristics of Korean culture.
