모두를 위한 대학 상상하기 -한 시각장애 대학생과의 내러티브 탐구-

Imagining a University for Everyone: A Narrative Inquiry with a Visually Impaired College Student

이 연구는 한 시각장애 대학생과의 내러티브 탐구를 통해 드러난 대학생 경험의 일부를 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 ‘모두를 위한 대학-되기’의 가능성을 열고자 하였다. 이 연구의 연구참여자는 전맹 시각장애인 대학생으로, 그는 코로나19 시기에 맹학교 졸업 후 처음으로 비장애인과 대학생활을 시작했다. 연구자와 연구참여자는 2021년부터 2023년까지 내러티브 탐구 공간에서 서로의 대학경험을 이야기하고 다시 이야기하며, 함께 이야기를 살아갔다. 본 연구에서는 연구자와 연구참여자가 내러티브 탐구 공간에서 살아낸 이야기를 ‘보이지 않는 대학생, 두드리고 구해야 열리는 대학생활, 유용하거나 소외되는 기술과의 얽힘, 차이를 통해 배우며 함께 가능한 미래 꿈꾸기’라는 네 개의 내러티브 가닥을 중심으로 제시하였다. 나아가 이 과정에서 새롭게 떠오른 질문들을 잠정적으로 매듭지으며, 우리가 살아가고자 하는 대학 이야기에 다른 가능성을 열고자 하였다. 이 내러티브 탐구는 우리가 그동안 보지 못했던 대학생은 누구인지를 지속적으로 묻고, 교육 현장에서의 기술 활용이 모두에게 접근 가능하고 유용한 방식으로 섬세하게 개발되고 적용되기를 제안한다. 나아가 대학이 서로의 차이를 통해 배우며 함께 변화하는 공동체일 수 있다는 가능성에 대한 발견을 바탕으로, 모두를 위한 대학을 끊임없이 상상하고 만들어 가기를 기대한다.

This study aims to understand some aspects of the college experience revealed through a narrative inquiry with a visually impaired college student, and to open up possibilities for becoming a “university for everyone”. The participant in this research is a completely blind student who began his university life among sighted peers for the first time after graduating from a school for the blind during the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2021 to 2023, the researcher and the participant told and retold their college experiences in a narrative inquiry space, reliving their stories together. This study presents the narratives lived out by the researcher and the participant, centered on four resonant narrative threads: “the invisible college student”, “the university life that opens up through tapping and seeking”, “entanglements with useful or alienating technology”, and “dreaming of a possible future through learning from differences”. Furthermore, by tentatively tying up newly emerging questions during this process, the study seeks to open up other possibilities for the university stories we wish to live out. This narrative inquiry continuously questions who the unseen college students might be, suggesting that the use of technology in educational settings should be developed and applied in ways that are accessible and beneficial for all. Additionally, based on the discovery that universities can be communities that learn from each other's differences and change together, it is hoped that we will continuously imagine and create a university for everyone.
