미국 예술고등학교 미술과 운영 사례 연구: 교육목표, 입학 전형, 교육과정을 중심으로

A Study on the Operational Cases of Visual Arts Departments in U.S. Art High Schools : Focusing on Educational Objective, Admission Process, and Curriculum

본 연구는 미국 예술고등학교 미술과가 표방하는 교육목표와 내용을 분석하여 특징을 파악하고, 국내 예술 인재 양성 교육에대한 시사점을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 미국 교육평가기관 Niche에서 제공하는 학교 순위와 지역, 학교형태를 고려하여 다섯 개의 학교를 선정한 뒤, 각 학교가 홈페이지를 통해 명문화하여 공개한 교육목표, 입학 전형, 교육과정을 조사·분석하였다. 또한 분석 결과를 확인하고 이해를 보완하고자 분석 대상의 예술고 졸업생 4명과 면담을 진행하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 첫째, 인재상 및 교육목표의 명확한 진술, 둘째, 시대적 변화와 사회적 요구를 반영한 과목 및 전공의확대, 셋째, 인재상 및 교육목표에 부합하는 입학 전형의 모색, 넷째, 인문학, 수학·과학 등 보통교과 교육의 내실화, 다섯째, 교육 내용과 방법의 전환, 여섯째, 보다 확장된 시각을 반영한 진로 교육 프로그램 제공을 시사점으로 제시하였다. 한국 사회의 구조적 한계로 인해 변화의 어려움은 있지만 현재 학교 운영의 자율성 확대, 자유전공 및 무전공 기조의 확산, 대학에대한 인식 변화 등을 기회로 삼아 예술 인재 양성 교육의 혁신을 적극적으로 모색할 필요가 있다.

This study aims to identify the characteristics of art education in U.S. art high schools through case analysis and derive implications for art talent development education in Korea. To achieve this, five schools were selected based on the school rankings, regions, and school types provided by the U.S. educational evalua tion agency Niche. The educational objective, admission process, and curriculum explicitly stated and dis closed on each school's website were investigated and analyzed. Additionally, to verify and supplement the analysis results, interviews were conducted with four graduates from the selected art high schools. Based on the research findings, the following implications were presented: articulating the ideal student profile and educational objectives, expanding subjects and majors to meet the changing needs and de mands of the era, exploring admissions processes aligned with the ideal student profile and educational objective, enhancing general education in areas such as humanities, mathematics, and science, transition ing educational content and methods, and providing career education programs based on an expanded perspective on career paths. Although structural challenges within Korean society may make such changes difficult, opportunities such as increased autonomy in school operations, the trend toward undeclared ma jors, and changing perceptions of universities should be leveraged to drive transformative efforts in art tal ent development education.
