The purpose of this study was to examine whether autonomy and depression sequentially mediate the relationship between parental academic achievement pressure and adolescents’ career maturity. The current study analyzed the 14th wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC), which included a total of 1,348 adolescents. A sequential mediation analysis was conducted using SPSS Process Macro model 6. The results were as follows: First, parental academic achievement pressure negatively impacted adolescents’ career maturity. Second, both adolescents’ autonomy and depression showed significant mediating effects in this relationship. Third, it was confirmed that autonomy and depression sequentially mediated the effect of parental academic achievement pressure on adolescents’ career maturity. These findings highlight the importance of fostering autonomy in adolescents to promote a mature attitude toward career development. Additionally, the study underscores the need for programs aimed at enhancing adolescents’ autonomy and addressing depressive emotions, as well as providing appropriate parental education.
