Purpose: The objective of this study was to verify the validity of the Delirium Pre-Risk Factor Tool (DePre-Tool) for adult patients in general wards. Methods: The first step of the study involved the collection of medical records for adult patients hospitalized from May 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024 in eight departments of internal medicine and surgical wards at tertiary general hospitals. These data were then analyzed using the IBM SPSS software (version 26.0). Results: After factor analysis for construct validity verification, four factors explaining 54.7% of the total variance were extracted. After validation of the control group, the difference in the delirium incidence scores calculated using the DePre-Tool between the delirium and non-delirium groups was found to be highly significant (Z=−7.63, p<.001). The predictive validity test reported that the sensitivity was 85.4%, specificity was 67.8%, positive predictive value was 24.1%, and negative predictive value was 97.5%. In the reliability verification, the DePre-Tool showed a 95% confidence interval. Conclusion: The DePre-Tool can screen for delirium with three or more points, and its validity and reliability have been verified. Therefore, this tool will contribute to the effective management of delirium patients by enabling the rapid prediction of delirium patients in clinical practice.
