사회복지분야 실천가의 경계선 지능인 지원 경험

Experience of Practitioners in the Field of Social Welfare supporting a Person with Borderline Intellectual Functioning

이 연구는 사회복지분야에서 경계선 지능인을 지원하는 실천가의 경험을 탐색하고자 한 것이다. 이를 위해 개별 및 초점집단 인터뷰를 활용하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과 7개의 주제와 21개의 하위주제가 발견되었으며, 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실천가들은 대상자를 발굴하는 과정에서 다양한 제약을 경험했다. 둘째, 경계선 지능인은 미숙한 사회적 관계 실패 경험 누적으로 관계망 구축에 어려움을 겪고 있음을 발견했다. 셋째, 경계선 지능인 당사자뿐 아니라 부모와 가족을 위한 지원이 필요하다. 넷째, 실천가는 대상자별 수준의 차이와 요구를 고려한 프로그램 운영에 어려움을 겪었다. 다섯째, 실천가들은 지원 과정에서 마주한 구조적 한계로 고민하고 있었다. 여섯째, 여러 제약에도 불구하고 실천 현장에서는 경계선 지능인을 개별 집중 지원하기 위해 노력하고 있었다. 마지막으로 실천가들은 단순히 서비스를 제공하는 역할에 그치지 않고, 인간적 관계 속에서 경계선 지능인을 이해하려는 노력을 하고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과에 기초하여 경계선 지능인에 대한 실효성 있는 지원체계 모색을 위한 사회복지적 함의를 제안하였다.

This study aims to explore the support experiences of practitioners who provide services to a person with borderline intellectual functioning in the field of social welfare. To this end, data was collected and analysed by means of individual interviews and focus group interviews. As a result of the study, 7 themes and 21 sub-themes were found, and the main research results are as follows. First, practitioners experienced various constraints in the process of identifying clients. Second, person with borderline intellectual functioning were found to be having difficulty building a network due to the accumulation of inexperienced social relationship failure experiences. Third, they recognized the need for support not only for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning but also for their parents and families. Fourth, practitioners had difficulty with the delivery of programmes that took account of the different levels and needs of each client. Fifth, they struggled with the structural limitations encountered in trying to help. Sixth, despite being constrained in various ways, practitioners endeavoured to provide individualised support to people with borderline intellectual functioning. Finally, practitioners did not simply fulfil the role of service providers, but also sought to understand people with borderline intellectual functioning within human relationships. Based on these findings, social welfare implications were proposed for the search for an effective support system for a person with borderline intellectual functioning.
