The Effects of Perceived Academic Achievement on Career Preparation Attitudes of Multicultural High School Seniors : The Moderating Effects of Parental Involvement in Career-Related Behaviors
- 139
This study aims to provide educational and social implications by examining the moderating effects of parental career-related attitudes — specifically, support and interference — on the relationship between perceived academic achievement and career attitude readiness among multicultural high school seniors. For this purpose, data from the ninth wave (2019) of the first cohort of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS), conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Institute, were analyzed. A three-step hierarchical regression analysis was performed using SPSS 27.0. The results show that perceived academic achievement exerts a significant positive influence on career attitude readiness. Furthermore, parental interference exhibited a significant negative moderating effect on the relationship between perceived academic achievement and career attitude readiness. In contrast, the moderating effect of parental support was not statistically significant. These findings reinforce the theoretical foundation for supporting multicultural parents and adolescents. They also highlight the necessity of educational and social interventions to assist multicultural students in their academic and career development.
