아랍에미리트의 도덕교육의 탐색

Exploring Moral Education in the United Arab Emirates

본 연구는 아랍에미리트(UAE)의 도덕교육이 교과로 새롭게 도입된 배경, 교육과정, 학교에서의 실행 방식에 대해 분석하여, 다문화 사회에서 도덕교육 운영의 특징, 도전 및 과제, 그리고 해결 방안을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. UAE는 이슬람교를 국교로 채택하고 있음에도 불구하고, 청소년들이 다문화·세계화된 경제구조에 적응하고, 급격한 과학기술의 발전과 미래 사회에서 발생할 수 있는 도덕적 문제들을 적절히 대응할 수 있도록 2017년부터 모든 학교에서 도덕교육을 의무적으로 시행하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 보편적 가치를 자국의 전통과 문화에 기초하여 해석함으로써, 도덕교육에서 보편 윤리와 이슬람 전통 문화의 조화를 추구하고, 상호 문화 존중을 바탕으로 UAE 구성원으로서의 사회적 정체성을 확립하였다. 또한, 학교 현장에서 교과로서 도덕교육을 운영하는 데 따른 어려움을 분석하고, 이에 대한 해결 방안을 논의하였다.

This study explores the characteristics, challenges, and key tasks aspects of implementing moral education in a multicultural society by analyzing its background, curriculum, and school-level execution of moral education as a newly introduced subject in the United Arab Emirates(UAE). Although Islam is the state religion of the UAE, moral education has been mandatory in all schools since 2017. The program is designed to equip adolescents with the necessary skills to navigate a multicultural and globalized economy, adapt to rapid scientific and technological advancements, and address emerging moral issues in future societies. Accordingly, this study examined the integration of universal ethics and Islamic traditional culture in moral education by interpreting universal values within the context of the country’s traditions and culture. It also explored how social identity as a member of the UAE is established based on mutual cultural respect. Additionally, the study analyzed the challenges of implementing moral education as a subject in schools and discussed potential solutions.
