다문화 그림책 감상 과정에서 나타난 유아의 반응

Children's responses to the process of appreciating multicultural picture books

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 그림책 감상 과정에서 유아들이 다문화에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 반응하는지를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 질적연구를 실시하였다. 연구대상은 충청남도 소재의 유치원 5세반, 두 학급의 유아 35명이다. 다문화 그림책 감상은 그림책 탐색, 그림책 내용 예측, 그림책 감상 및 소개, 그림책 내용 이해 및 분석, 그림책의 재해석 순으로 진행하였다. 연구를 위한 자료수집은 다문화 그림책 감상과 관련된 장면을 촬영한 영상 및 사진자료, 참여관찰 기록지, 교육계획 및 평가, 유아들의 활동결과물, 담임교사 면담 기록지 등을 통해 이루어졌다. 자료 분석은 Creswell(2007/2015)의 나선형 자료분석을 토대로 자료를 분류하고 범주화하였다. 연구결과, 다문화 그림책 감상 과정에서 나타난 유아의 반응은 ‘다름에 대해 인식하고 표현하기: 틀린 것!?, 이상한 것!?, 잘못된 것!?’, ‘다양성을 수용하고 존중하기: 나무와 나무가 모여 숲이 되는 것처럼’으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 다문화교육을 위한 그림책 활용과 교수적 접근에 대한 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine how young children perceive and respond to multiculturalism during the process of appreciating multicultural picture books. To achieve this, a qualitative research approach was conducted. The participants were 35 children from two kindergarten classes for 5-year-olds in Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. The process of appreciating multicultural picture books consisted of book exploration, predicting book content, appreciating and introducing the book, understanding and analyzing the content, and reinterpreting the book. Data collection for the study was conducted through video and photo materials capturing scenes related to picture book appreciation, participant observation records, educational plans and evaluations, children’s activity outcomes, and teacher interview records. Data analysis was done by categorizing and classifying the data based on Creswell’s (2007/2015) spiral data analysis method. The results of the study showed that the children’s responses during the multicultural picture book appreciation process were categorized into two themes: “Recognizing and expressing differences: Is it wrong? Strange? Incorrect?” and “Accepting and respecting diversity: Like trees coming together to form a forest.” This study is significant because it offers educational implications for using picture books in multicultural education and teaching approaches.
