해양 생태체험활동 속 유아의 해양환경에 대한 생명존중 인식 탐색

Exploring Young Children's Awareness of Respect for Life in the Context of Marine Ecological Experience Activities

본 연구는 해양 생태체험활동 맥락 속 해양환경에 대한 유아의 생명존중 인식을 알아보았다. 구체적으로, 본 연구는 RCE 지속가능발전교육 도시 선촌마을에 인접한 어린이집 5세 학급 유아들의 해양생물과의 직접적인 만남 속에서 공감, 존중, 배려, 환경적 책임감의 가치가 어떻게 드러나는지 학급 참여관찰 및 비형식적 면담과 포트폴리오 분석, 담임교사 면담을 통해 질적으로 탐색하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 유아들은 해양생물체들을 통해 즐거움과 행복감을 느꼈고, 해양환경과의 정서적 유대감을 형성하였으며, 생태계의 가치를 인식하였다. 둘째, 해양 생태체험활동은 해양쓰레기 감소 및 에너지 절약과 같은 환경보호의 중요성을 공감하고 개선하는 계기로 이어졌다. 유아기 해양 생태체험활동의 교육적 가치와 잠재적 가능성을 보여준 본 연구는 환경오염의 영향을 받는 해양생물체에 대한 연민을 유아기부터 키우는 등 지속 가능한 행동의 중요성을 강조하고자 하며, 유아의 생명존중 및 환경문제에 대한 인식을 개선하여 탄소중립과 같은 더 광범위한 목표에 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다. 특히, 환경교육을 통하여 전 생애로 이어지는 환경보호 인식과 자연 생태계에 대한 생명존중 인식이 발달의 결정적 시기인 유아기에 이루어질 수 있다는 점은 해양 생태체험활동의 ​​중요한 교육적 가치임이 드러났다.

This study investigates young children's awareness of respect for life concerning the marine environment through the lens of marine ecological experience activities. Specifically, it qualitatively examines how empathy, respect, care, and environmental responsibility emerge during direct interactions with marine life among five-year-old children in a preschool near Seonchon Village, a Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE). The children experienced joy and happiness through encounters with marine organisms, formed emotional bonds with the marine environment, and recognized the value of ecosystems. Furthermore, marine ecological experience activities served as a catalyst for understanding and promoting the importance of environmental protection, such as reducing marine litter and conserving energy. This study highlights the educational value and potential of marine ecological experience activities during early childhood by fostering empathy for marine organisms affected by environmental pollution. It underscores the importance of nurturing sustainable behaviors from a young age and improving children's awareness of respect for life and environmental issues, ultimately contributing to broader goals such as carbon neutrality. Significantly, the findings suggest that early childhood, a critical period for developmental growth, is an opportune time to cultivate lifelong environmental consciousness and respect for the natural ecosystem through environmental education.
