Analysis of the Occurrence Status and Seasonal Characteristics of High-Concentration Fine Dust in Gwangju Metropolitan City

This study analyzed the fine dust levels in Gwangju Metropolitan City using PM-10 and PM-2.5 concentration data from 11 urban air quality monitoring stations provided by Air Korea. The occurrence of high-concentration fine dust exceeding the daily air quality standards was evaluated from 2020 to 2023. The frequency of high-concentration PM-10 was highest in spring, while that of PM-2.5 peaked in winter. However, the average concentrations on days with high fine dust levels were highest in spring, with PM-10 peaking in March and May, and PM-2.5 in April and May. This study highlights the need for continued efforts to improve air quality in Gwangju Metropolitan City by strengthening management on high fine dust days and extending the operational period of seasonal fine dust control measures.
