This study aimed to determine the optimal conditions for sedimentation efficiency in an improved slit-adjustable sedimentation tank by evaluating sedimentation characteristics according to changes in plate angle and influent flow rate. In the plate angle adjustment experiment, it was observed that the lower sludge concentration increased as the angle decreased. In the plate angle adjustment experiment, it was observed that sludge concentration in the lower part of the tank increased as the angle decreased. This phenomenon was attributed to the formation of a filtration layer by the sludge at smaller angles, resulting in sludge concentration toward the lower part. At angles of 0°, 10°, and 20°, the concentration ratios were 347.7%, 251.5%, and 221.2%, respectively, while the TS removal efficiencies were 97.0%, 93.6%, and 92.4%. The CODcr concentration ratio was 320.1%, 218.0%, and 215.7% for each angle. In the experiment with increasing influent flow rate, the plate angle was fixed at 10°, and the flow rate was increased from 2.4 ㎥/day to 2.9 ㎥/day (approximately a 21% increase). As a result, the concentration ratio increased to 251.5%, 268.2%, and 270.5%, while the effluent water quality showed little change despite the increased flow rate. These findings confirm that stable sedimentation performance can be maintained even under shorter HRT conditions compared to the standards in sewer design guidelines.
