소규모 종교계 대학의 대학기관평가인증 참여 과정과 성공 요인 분석

Analysis of the Participation Process and Success Factors of University Accreditation for Small Religious Universities

본 연구는 소규모 종교계 대학의 대학기관평가인증 참여 경험과 성공 요인을 분석하여, 이들이 직면한 어려움과 이를 극복하기 위한 전략을 탐구하였다. 이를 위해 2023년 하반기 평가에 참여하여 인증 자격을 획득한 소규모 종교계 대학의 평가대응 총괄부서 보직자 및 실무책임자를 대상으로 면담을 실시하여, 인증 준비, 참여, 결과에 대한 심층 분석을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 소규모 대학은 제한된 재정 자원, 교직원 인력 부족, 평가 준거에 대한 이해도 부족 등 여러 어려움에 직면했음을 확인하였다. 소규모 대학은 이를 해결하기 위해 평가 관련 외부 전문가 자문, 협력적 TF 운영 등의 전략을 활용하였다. 성공 요인으로는 총장의 강력한 리더십, 교직원 간의 의사소통, 평가의 필요성에 대한 공감대 형성, 외부 전문가 자문과 같은 전략이 도출되었다. 평가 준비 과정에 대한 행정적 부담에도 불구하고, 평가 참여는 대학의 조직 체계 개선, 교육과정 내실화, 구성원 간 성공경험 공유와 발전 동력에 기여하였다. 본 연구는 소규모 대학의 특성을 반영할 수 있는 평가 기준 마련의 필요성을 강조하며, 유연한 정책과 체계적인 지원 시스템이 소규모 대학의 인증 기준 충족 능력을 향상시키고 나아가 우리나라 고등교육의 평균 수준을 끌어올릴 수 있다는 시사점을 제시하였다.

This study examines the experiences and success factors of small religious colleges participating in university accreditation. In-depth interviews were conducted with key administrators and staff involved in the accreditation process. Findings indicate that these colleges face significant challenges, including limited financial resources, insufficient human capacity, and a low level of understanding of accreditation standards. To overcome these barriers, strategies such as external expert consultations and collaborative task force (TF) operations were employed. Success factors included strong presidential leadership, effective communication and consensus-building among faculty and staff, and targeted support from external advisors. Despite resource constraints, accreditation efforts led to improvements in institutional organization, curriculum development, and internal collaboration. The study suggests that accreditation policies should better accommodate the characteristics of small colleges through flexible standards and structured support systems.
