한국과 미국 가정학 논문 리뷰를 통한 한국 가정학의 BoK 모델 탐색

Exploring a Korean Home Economics Body of Knowledge (BoK) Model through a Review of Korean and American Home Economics Literature

본 연구는 한국과 미국 가정학의 논문리뷰를 통해 한국 가정학 BoK 모델을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 미국 가정학 BoK는 인간의 기본적 욕구, 인간 생태계, 생애 과정 발달 등의 핵심 개념을 중심으로 역량 강화, 글로벌 상호의존성, 자원 발달 및 지속가능성, 웰니스, 기술의 적절한 사용 등 공통이슈를 구성요소로 하고 있다. 미국 가정학 BoK는 가정학을 학문적으로 통합하는 접근법을 채택하고 있으며, 이를 통해 교육⋅연구⋅실천 분야에서 가정학의 정체성을 강화하고 있어, 한국 가정학 BoK 개발에 있어 미국 가정학 BoK의 개념적 틀을 참고할 필요가 있다. 한국은 저출생⋅고령사회, 지속가능성, 건강과 웰니스 등이 주요한 이슈로 대두되고 있으며, 이에 적절한 가정학적 접근이 필요하다. 기존의 전통적 분과학문 위주의 연구에서 벗어나, 포괄적 웰빙, 사회적 지속가능성, 기술 변화 대응 등이 포함되어야 한다. 이에 한국 가정학 BoK 모델을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 핵심 가치로 지속가능한 웰빙을 삼고, 핵심 요소로 행동 주체, 임파워먼트, 회복탄력성, 세 가지 행동체계로 설정하였다. 또한 핵심 영역은 식생활, 의생활, 주생활, 아동가족학, 소비자학 및 가정경영, 가정교육학 등 6개 영역이 있으며, 공통 이슈로는 저출생⋅고 령사회, 글로벌 상호의존성, 기술의 적절한 사용, 지속가능한 자원 관리, 건강과 웰니스로 설정하였다. 이는 미국 가정학 BoK와 유사한 통합적, 학제적 접근을 반영하면서 한국의 사회적 이슈를 고려한 것이 특징이다. 향후 전문가 검증 및 현장 적용을 통해 한국 가정학의 교육⋅연구⋅실천적 정체성을 강화하는 방안을 모색하는 것이 요구된다.

This study aims to explore a Korean Home Economics BoK Model through a review of academic literature from both Korea and the United States. The American Home Economics BoK Model centers on fundamental human needs, human ecosystems, and life-course development, integrating cross-cutting themes such as capacity building, global interdependence, resource management and sustainability, wellness, and appropriate use of technology. For a Korean Home Economics BoK model, ‘Sustainable well-being’ is adopted as the guiding principle to address Korea’s low birthrate, population aging, sustainability, and public health challenges. Three core elements such as agency, empowerment, and resilience are defined and operationalized via three systems of action: technical, practical, and critical action. The BoK is organized into six domains: Nutrition & Food Science; Clothing & Textile Design; Housing & Interior Design; Child & Family Studies; Consumer Science & Family Resource Management; and Home Economics Education. Five intersecting issue areas—demographic response, global interdependence, technology integration, sustainable resource management, and health & wellness—are embedded across all domains. The exploratory model combines the integrative, interdisciplinary approach of the American Home Economics BoK Model with Korea’s socio-cultural priorities, offering a flexible and comprehensive framework. Follow-up studies involving expert validation and field testing are recommended to strengthen the identity of home economics in Korea.
