대학 연극전공의 연출교육 실태와 개선 방안 –모듈형 통합 교과 모델을 중심으로-

A Study on the Current Status and Improvement Measures of Directing Education in University Theater Departments -Focused on a Modular Integrated Curriculum Model-

본 연구는 국내 2년제 이상 연극 관련 학과의 교과과정 편성 실태를 전수 조사하여, 대학 연출교육의 구조적 문제를 진단하고 개선 방향을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 전수 조사를 통해 전국 73개 대학 중 학부(과)명이나 전공명에 ‘연극’ 또는 ‘연출’이 포함된 23개 대학을 연구대상으로 삼아 교과목을 이론, 희곡, 연기, 극장기술, 제작, 연출의 여섯 유형으로 분류하고, 유형별 분포를 백분율로 분석하였다. 또한 이들 대학을 전공 명칭과 운영 형태에 따라 A, B, C, D의 네 개 그룹으로 구분하여 연출교육 현황을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 체계와 관계없이 유사한 교과 구성으로 운영되고 있었으며, 연기 관련 교과의 비중이 가장 높고, 연출 관련 교과는 전체의 10% 이하로 낮게 나타났다. 이는 연출교육이 개별 교과보다는 제작 교과 중심으로 이루어지고 있음을 보여준다. 이에 본 연구는 제작 교과를 중심으로, 개별 교과들을 유기적으로 연결하고 교수자 협업을 통해 설계 가능한 ‘모듈형 통합 교과’ 모델을 제안하였다. 이 모델은 연출교육을 연결 중심의 체계로 전환하고, 연출 역량을 점진적으로 함양할 수 있는 실천적 교육 방식으로 활용될 수 있으며, 향후 대학 연출교육의 교육과정 개선과 나아가 현장 적응력 향상에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

This study aims to identify and address structural issues in directing education by analyzing the curriculum organization and course offerings of theater-related departments at two-year and four-year colleges in South Korea. The research targeted 23 institutions whose department or major titles included ”Theater” or “Directing,” and categorized their courses into six types: theory, playwriting, acting, stage technology, production, and directing. The distribution of these types was analyzed by calculating the percentage distribution. The results showed that acting-related courses occupied the highest proportion, while directing-related courses accounted for less than 10% of all offerings. Most universities provided directing education within production practice courses rather than through a structured sequence of specialized courses. Based on these findings, this study suggests three key strategies to enhance directing education: strengthening the linkage between individual courses, phased development of production practice courses, and integration with related fields and professional industries. As a concrete model, a “Modular Integrated Curriculum” is proposed to enable a more systematic and effective approach to directing education at the university level.
