Class III Malocclusion Treatment Using Horseshoe and Vertical Chin Cup Appliances

The horseshoe appliance was developed by Schwarz and is used to correct sagittal relationships by elastic force in the patients with Class III malocclusion. The horseshoe appliance minimizes the increment of lower anterior facial height and allow the mandible to be repositioned harmoniously with the so$ tissue and muscle matrix of the jaw. The vertical chin cup is a modified type of classical strategies for treatment of the skeletal Class III patient. This patient was treated with horseshoe and vertical chin cup appliances minimizing clockwise rotation of the mandible. And the treatment results were favorable and long-term (8-year) retention results were stable.
