국내 모래놀이치료 질적 연구 동향 분석

A Trend analysis of Qualitative Research on Sandplay Therapy in South Korea

본 연구는 2015년부터 2024년까지 지난 10년간 국내에서 수행된 모래놀이치료 질적 연구의 동향을 체계적으로 분석하고, 이를 통해 국내 연구의 학문적 성과와 한계를 진단하며 향후 발전 과제를 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 학술연구정보서비스(RISS) 등 주요 데이터베이스를 통해 최종 121편의 학술지 및 학위논문을 선정하여 연도별 추이, 발표유형, 연구 대상, 연구주제, 연구방법, 치료 회기 등을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 모래놀이치료 질적 연구는 꾸준히 수행되어 왔으며, 특히 2020년대 초반에 연구가 집중되는 경향을 보였다. 연구 대상은 아동(33.1%)과 성인(30.6%)이 주를 이루었고, 주요 연구주제는 ‘자기이해’(32.3%)와 ‘트라우마 및 학대’(15.7%)로 나타나, 심층 심리치료로서의 정체성을 확인시켜주었다. 그러나 연구 방법론에 있어 ‘사례연구’가 91.7%로 압도적인 비중을 차지하여 방법론적 편중이 심각한 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구의 논의에서는 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 국내 연구의 성과를 조명하는 한편, 양적 연구 및 신경과학 연구를 중심으로 향하는 국제적 연구 동향과 비교하며 국내 연구의 방법론적 한계를 비판적으로 고찰하였다. 특히 국내 연구가 질적 연구와 양적 연구라는 두 개의 분리된 트랙으로 진행되고 있는 현상을 지적하고, 두 흐름의 통합 필요성을 제기하였다. 결론적으로, 국내 모래놀이치료 연구가 학문적으로 한 단계 더 도약하기 위해서는 사례연구 중심의 방법론에서 벗어나 현상학적 연구, 내러티브 탐구 등 다양한 질적 연구 방법을 적극적으로 도입하고, 나아가 질적 연구와 양적 연구를 연계하는 혼합연구 설계를 통해 연구의 깊이와 폭을 확장해야 함을 제언하였다.

This study aims to analyze the trends in qualitative research on sandplay therapy conducted in South Korea from 2015 to 2024. A total of 121 academic articles and theses were selected from major databases such as RISS, and analyzed by year, publication type, research participants, themes, methodology, and number of sessions. The results show that research has steadily increased, particularly in the early 2020s. Children (33.1%) and adults (30.6%) were the most frequent participants. Major themes included self-understanding (32.3%) and trauma and abuse (15.7%), highlighting the therapeutic depth of sandplay therapy. However, methodological analysis revealed a strong reliance on case studies (91.7%), indicating a lack of diversity. This study discusses the need to address such methodological limitations by comparing domestic trends with international developments, which emphasize quantitative and neuroscientific approaches. It also points to the current divide between qualitative and quantitative research in South Korea, suggesting the need for integration. To advance academic development, the study recommends adopting diverse qualitative methods such as phenomenology and narrative inquiry, and promoting mixed-method designs that link qualitative and quantitative approaches.
