상담학과 복수전공생들의 진로결정 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

A Phenomenological Study on the Career Decision-Making Experiences of Students Double-Majoring in Counseling Psychology

본 연구는 상담학과를 복수전공한 대학생들이 진로를 어떻게 결정해 왔는지, 그 과정에서 어떤 경험을 했으며 이를 어떻게 의미화하는지를 탐색하였다. 이에 상담학과 복수전공 이력이 있는 10명의 참여자를 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고, Giorgi의 기술적 현상학적 방법을 적용해 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 세 가지 본질적 의미 구조와 13개의 핵심 구성 요소, 32개의 세부 의미 단위가 도출되었다. 첫째, 진로결정의 초기 동기와 선택과정은 진로결정의 모호성, 본 전공에 대한 아쉬움과 대체, 실리적 진로 전략, 상담학과 복수전공 접근성의 용이성이 포함되었다. 둘째, 상담학과 복수전공 과정에서의 심리적 여정과 성장은 초기 적응의 불안과 부담, 낯선 땅에 선 이방인 같은 심정, 학업 목표의 재정비, 전공 간 통합적 학습 경험, 교수 및 동료, 가족의 지지적 관계 경험으로 나타났다. 셋째, 복수전공을 통한 진로 명료화와 내적 성장은 진로 인식의 명료화, 상담학에 대한 흥미와 몰입, 치열한 학습 끝에 얻은 만족감, 내면적 성장과 자기 탐색으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 상담학 복수전공생들의 진로결정 경험을 체계적으로 구조화하여 제시함으로써, 진로상담 실천 및 대학 내 복수전공제도 설계에 참고할 수 있는 기초자료를 제공한다.

This study explored how undergraduate students who double majored in counseling made career decisions, their experiences, and how they constructed meaning. In-depth interviews were conducted with ten participants who had completed or were pursuing a double major in counseling, and data were analyzed using Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method. The analysis yielded three essential meaning structures, thirteen core components, and thirty-two detailed meaning units. First, motivations and early decision-making included ambiguity about career paths, dissatisfaction with the primary major, practical strategies, and accessibility of the counseling major. Second, the psychological journey and growth involved early anxiety, feelings of being an outsider, reorientation of goals, integrative learning, and supportive relationships. Third, career clarification and inner growth emerged through career awareness, immersion in counseling, satisfaction from intense learning, and self-exploration. These findings provide insights into career counseling practice and double major programs in higher education.
