Analysis of Research Trends on Interventions for Nonverbal Learning Disability: NVLD

본 연구에서는 교육 현장의 사각지대 학습자 중 하나인 비언어성 학습장애(Nonverbal Learning Disability: NVLD)를 대상으로 실시된 국내외 중재 연구의 동향을 분석함으로써 교육적 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 체계적 문헌 분석 절차를 거쳐 2004년부터 2024년까지 국내외 NVLD 중재 문헌 10편을 확인하여 연구들의 일반적 특성과 연구 방법, 독립변인과 종속변인 등을 살펴보았다. 또한 증거기반실제(EBP: Evidence-based Practices)로 활용 가능한 중재를 확인하고자 중재 연구들의 효과크기, 질적 지표 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, NVLD 대상 중재 연구는 주로 10명 이하의 초등학생 및 중학생을 대상으로 이루어져 왔다. 종속변인은 주로 NVLD의 핵심 특성인 시지각 기능, 심리적 기능, 사회성 등이었으며 이에 대한 중재로는 시지각 중재 혹은 심리치료 등이 활용되었다. 효과 크기 분석 결과 인지 및 심리 관련 어려움을 다룬 연구들에서 비교적 높은 효과가, 질적 지표 분석 결과 연구 대상자 정보와 중재 정보에서 높은 질적 수준이 확인되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구 결과들을 토대로 NVLD의 중재 관련 논의 및 후속 연구 등을 제언하였다.

This study explored domestic and international research trends on interventions for Nonverbal Learning Disability(NVLD), a hidden learner in the educational field, to offer educational implications. From 2004 to 2024, a total of 10 studies were systematically reviewed to analyze research trends, including experimental designs, independent and dependent variables, and other relevant factors. Additionally, the effect size & quality indicator of each intervention study was assessed to identify interventions suitable as evidence-based practices (EBP). The analysis revealed that most NVLD intervention studies involved small sample sizes, mainly focusing on elementary and middle school students. The primary dependent variables were visuospatial abilities, psychological functioning, and social skills. Interventions included visual or psychological therapy, as well as other relevant approaches tailored to the dependent variables. Several studies showed high effect sizes, particularly those addressing cognitive and psychological challenges, while high-quality indicators were found in the information of participants and the intervention. Based on these findings, the study discussed strategies for NVLD intervention and provided suggestions for future research directions.
