영유아 그림책에 나타난 가족 속 반려동물 묘사의 의미 탐색

Exploring the meaning of the description of companion animals in the family in young children picture books

본 연구는 그림책에 나타난 가족 속 반려동물의 특성 및 반려동물과 가족 간의 모습은 어떻게 묘사되었는지 그 의미를 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 가족 속 반려동물이 등장하는 영유아 그림책 24권을 분석대상으로 하였으며, 선행연구를 참고하여 범주를 설정하고 내용분석 하였다. 첫째, 가족 속 반려동물의 특성을 살펴본 결과, 종류는 개, 이름은 가족이 지어준 이름이 있는 경우, 의인화는 말(독백)을 하는 경우가 가장 많이 나타났다. 둘째, 반려동물과 가족 간의 모습 중 핵심 주제는 교감과 우정이 더 많이 나타난 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 가족과 반려동물과의 관계는 돌봄의 관계, 공유의 관계가 동일하게 나타났으며, 그다음으로 단절의 관계 순이었다. 본 연구는 가족 속 반려동물을 표현한 그림책이 영유아에게 다양한 가족 구성에 대한 긍정적인 태도와 포용적 사고를 함양할 수 있는 문화적 매체로 기능할 수 있으며, 이에 대한 적극적인 활용이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of companion animals in the family and how their appearance and their families are described in picture books. Twenty-four picture books for young children featuring companion animals in the family were analyzed. Categories were set and content analyzed by referring to previous studies. First, as a result of examining the characteristics of companion animals in the family, the most common types were dogs, names given by the family, and personifications of those that spoke(monologues). Second, communion and friendship appeared more as a key topic among companion animals and families. In addition, the relationships between family and companion animals were equally divided into the relationship of care that of sharing, and that of disconnection. This study suggests that picture books expressing companion animals in the family can function as a cultural medium to foster positive attitudes and inclusive thinking toward diverse family structures in young children, and necessitate active utilization thereof.
