Smith’s work places Imperial Rome from verse 14 to 30, treats the papacy briefly in verses 31-35, and interprets the king of the South as atheism from verse 36. Verses 40-45 are applied to Turkey, reflecting the geopolitical context of his time. The Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary largely follows Smith but presents alternative views and avoids specifics on unfulfilled events. The Andrews Study Bible moves Rome’s appearance to verse 20, shortens Imperial Rome’s role, and focuses on the Church of Rome from verse 23 onward. These changes show that Adventist interpretation of Daniel 11 has shifted over time, shaped by new historical contexts, textual insights, and theological reflection.
