전쟁사 전시를 매개로 한 기념관에서의 상호문화주의 구현: 이주민 관람객의 전쟁기념관 탐방을 중심으로

한국에 오랜 기간 거주한 슬로바키아 출신 이주민 관람객 미하엘(가명)이 자신의 개인적 역사·문화적 배경을 바탕으로 한국문화와의 접합점에 대해 알아보고, 이와 같은 경험이 어떻게 상호문화주의 실현에 영향을 끼치는가에 관해 연구하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통해 첫째, 전쟁기념관의 전시 콘텐츠를 통해 한국과 외국의 역사를 주제로 한 상호문화주의를 연구하여, 다문화사회에 맞는 전시, 역사, 교육 콘텐츠 개발 필요성을 인식하는 계기를 마련하고자 한다. 둘째, 이주민 관람객이 전쟁기념관에서 내러티브화 된 전쟁사를 접한 이후 그 반응에 관해 관찰함으로써 어떤 식으로 여러 문화 집단 간에 소통의 통로로 활용하는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 셋째, 이주민 개인의 출신 국가와 관련된 역사적 사건이 전쟁기념관 전시를 매개로 한국·역사 문화·사회와의 상호문화적 연결고리를 형성할 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 전쟁사를 상호문화주의적 관점으로 분석하여, 이를 통해 역사적 담론을 생성하여, 박물관 및 역사교육을 통한 상호문화주의 실현에 기여하고자 한다.

This study explores how the personal historical and cultural background of Michael (pseudonym), a Slovakian living in Korea, intersects with Korean culture through his experience of exploring the War Memorial of Korea. The purpose is to investigate how such experiences contribute to the realization of interculturalism in Korea. By analyzing how immigrant visitors receive and interpret war narratives within the museum setting, this study seeks to uncover the intercultural meanings constructed in such encounters. First, the study analyzes the exhibition content of the War Memorial to examine how Korean and foreign histories are represented from an intercultural perspective. In doing so, it aims to raise awareness of the need to develop exhibition, historical, and educational content that is appropriate for a multicultural society. Second, I observed the responses of immigrant visitors to the narrativedriven exhibitions of the War Memorial, the study explores how the museum can function as a communicative space that fosters comminicative space for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This contributes to understanding the role of museums and memorials as public educational spaces that support multicultural coexistence. Third, the study investigates whether historical events related to the visitor’s country of origin can, through the medium of museum exhibitions, form intercultural connections with Korean history, culture, and society. This analysis highlights the potential of exhibition experiences to foster intercultural understanding and solidarity. Through these inquiries, the study proposes that the War Memorial of Korea can function not only as a space of remembrance but also as a public venue for intercultural communication in an increasingly multicultural society.
