문학교육에서 내러티브와 메타포의 상생 방안 탐구

Exploring Strategies for the Coexistence of Narrative and Metaphor in Literature Education

본 연구는 문학교육에서 내러티브(narrative)와 메타포(metaphor)가 수행하는 교육적 기능과 이 둘의 상생적 활용 방안을 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 내러티브는 학습자가 자신의 경험을 이야기 형식으로 구조화하고 의미를 구성하도록 돕는 사고의 틀이며, 메타포는 추상적 개념과 감정을 구체적이고 감각적으로 전달하여 사고의 폭을 확장하는 인지적 장치이다. 그러나 문학교육에서 내러티브나 메타포 중 한쪽에 치우칠 경우, 문학의 다층적 해석과 심미적 체험이 축소되고, 학습자의 창의성과 감수성이 위축되는 문제점이 발생한다. 이에 본 연구는 문헌분석과 질적 사례연구를 통해 내러티브와 메타포의 상호보완적 관계를 고찰하고, 문학교육에서 이 둘을 균형 있게 활용하는 교수-학습 방안을 제시하였다. 연구 결과, 내러티브와 메타포의 통합적 활용은 학생들이 문학 작품을 자기 삶과 연결해 새롭게 해석하고 의미를 창출하는 능력을 함양하며, 문학교육을 삶과 연계된 창의적이고 공감적인 교육의 장으로 전환하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

This study aims to explore the educational functions of narrative and metaphor in literature education and to propose integrative strategies for their coexistence. Narrative serves as a thinking framework that helps learners structure their experiences in the form of stories and construct meaning, while metaphor functions as a cognitive device that conveys abstract concepts and emotions in concrete and sensory ways, thereby expanding the scope of thinking. However, when literature education becomes biased toward either narrative or metaphor, it risks diminishing the multi-layered interpretation and aesthetic experience of literature, and stifling learners’ creativity and sensitivity. Therefore, this study examined the complementary relationship between narrative and metaphor through literature review and qualitative case study, and suggested balanced teaching and learning methods that integrate both elements in literature education. The findings indicated that the integrative approach to narrative and metaphor could help students reinterpret literary texts in connection with their own lives, create new meanings, and ultimately would contribute to transforming literature education into a creative and empathetic field closely linked to real life.
