K-스트릿 댄스의 정체성 고찰

A Study on the Identity of K-street Dance

본 연구는 스트릿 댄스의 변형 과정과 특징적인 사회현상을 파악함으로써 K-스트릿 댄스의 의미와 정체성을 고찰하였다. 연구 결과는 세 가지로 나타났다. 첫째, 초기 스트릿 댄스는 해외 춤을 그대로 모방하던 시기를 거치면서 댄서 개인의 꾸밈과 실수가 개입되며 전달된다. 전달되는 과정에서 환경적인 영향과 정체성이 맞물려 기존과 다른 한국 특유의 춤으로 변형되었다. 둘째, 한국은 스트릿 댄스를 고등교육과정으로 전문적인 교육을 이룬 나라로서 세계 선두에 서 있으며, 이와 함께 국내에 전문적인 학회가 설립됨으로써 해외 스트릿 댄스에 종속된 연구에서 벗어나 자체적인 교육과 학문적 성과를 얻을 수 있다. 셋째, ‘K(Korean)’는 세계를 주도하는 문화로서 현 시대적이며 미래지향적인 K-컬처의 함축적인 의미를 지녔다. 따라서 ‘K-스트릿 댄스’의 정체성은 해외의 춤을 수용하는 것을 넘어 한국적인 문화수출품으로 창조하고 재전파함으로써 세계적인 영향력을 미치는, 문화의 힘을 가진 K-컬처의 의미로 나타낼 수 있다.

This study explores the meaning and identity of K-Street Dance by analyzing the transformation process of street dance and its characteristic social phenomena. The findings can be summarized in three key aspects. First, in its early stage, street dance in Korea was introduced through direct imitation of foreign dances; however, as dancers’ individual styles, improvisations, and errors were incorporated into practice, combined with Korea’s environmental influences and cultural identity, it was transformed into a uniquely Korean form of dance. Second, Korea has taken the lead globally by institutionalizing street dance within higher education curricula, thereby establishing a professional training system. Alongside this, the foundation of domestic academic associations has allowed the field to move beyond research subordinated to foreign models, enabling the accumulation of independent educational and scholarly achievements. Third, the prefix “K (Korean)” carries the implication of K-Culture as a future-oriented and globally influential phenomenon. Accordingly, the identity of K-Street Dance extends beyond the reception of foreign dances to their recreation and redistribution as cultural exports, positioning it as a powerful expression of K-Culture with global impact.
