방사선연호문경의 제작과 의미

The Production and Meaning of Bronze Mirrors with Radiation and Linked-arc Design

원삼국시대 영남지역에서 출토되는 방사선연호문경(放射線連弧文鏡)은 소형방제동경과 함께 방제경의 일환으로서 한경을 모방·제작한 거울이라 파악되었다. 하지만 이는 크기나 문양과 같은 형태적 요소와 뉴 및 뉴공 형태, 내범설치흔, 배면 구획 방식의 제작기술적 측면에서도 소형방제동경과 상이하며, 오히려 한경과 연결되는 양상이 확인된다. 이러한 모습은 같은 방제동경 내에서도 경종에 따라 제작 배경이나 목적이 구별되었음을 드러내는 것이라 할 수 있다. 이상의 문제의식을 기반으로 본고에서는 방사선연호문경에 대한 형태적·제작기술적 측면에서 접근하여, 기존 거울에 대한 계보나 제작지 및 제작 배경과 의미 등을 종합적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 이에 방사선연호 문경의 모방 대상으로 추정되는 한경이나, 공반 소형방제동경 외, 영남지역 내 동 시기의 여타 거울들과 비교를 시도하여 동경 기종 간 및 연구 대상 자체 내에서의 상사·상이성을 도출할 수 있었다. 그 결과, 방사선연호문경은 한경과 공통되는 제작기술적 요소가 다수 존재하나, 사례에 따라 소형방제동경과 연결되는 부분도 관찰되었다. 특히 문양의 배치 방식이나 뉴 및 뉴공의 형태는 모방 제작 시 제작자 혹은 소비자의 의도에 따라 동경 간 계보를 달리하여, 각각 한경 혹은 소형방제동경과 친연성을 지니는 방향으로 나아가고 있었다. 이러한 모습은 사례 간 시기에 따른 차이일 수도 있으나, 당시 원삼국시대 영남지역 내 사회 변화와 관련하여 거울의 성격이나 인식 또한 외형에 영향을 미치고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. 그에 따라 거울의 제작 배경이나 이유 및 제작기술적 형태와 계보 등을 기반으로 한국과 일본 출토품과의 관계 및 영남지역의 방제경 제작 공인에 대한 해석을 시도하였다.

Bronze mirrors with radiation and linked-arc designs (放射線連弧文鏡), excavated in the Yeongnam region during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period, have been identified as imitation bronze mirrors produced under the influence of Chinese mirrors (漢鏡), as in the case of small-scale imitation bronze mirrors (小型仿製銅鏡). However, they differ from the small-scale imitation bronze mirrors in terms of shape-related elements such as size and pattern, and have instead been confirmed to be more closely connected to Chinese mirrors. Their presence therefore reveals that differences existed among imitation bronze mirrors, depending on the background or purpose of production. Based on this awareness of the problem, this paper attempts to comprehensively examine the genealogy of bronze mirrors with radiation and linked-arc designs identified thus far, as well as their production sites, production background, and significance. For this purpose, the mirrors are analyzed in terms of their morphology and production technology. Similarities and differences, both among bronze mirrors with radiation and linked-arc designs and between them and other types, were identified by comparing these mirrors with small-scale imitation bronze mirrors of the same assemblage, Chinese mirrors, and other contemporaneous mirrors discovered in the Yeongnam region. As a result, a number of technical manufacturing elements common to Chinese mirrors were also observed in bronze mirrors with radiation and linked-arc designs. In some cases, shared elements with small-scale imitation bronze mirrors were also noted. This may reflect the different temporal contexts of the mirrors under study, but it may also indicate that the characteristics and perceptions of the objects influenced their appearance, in relation to social changes that took place in the Yeongnam region during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period. Accordingly, attempts were also made to establish the relationship between examples from the Yeongnam region and the Japanese Archipelago, based on the background or purpose of production, technical forms, and genealogy of production.
