어머니와 청소년 자녀의 스마트폰 과의존, 삶의 만족도, 자녀의 학업 무기력 간의 관계: 자기-상대방 상호의존모형(APIM)의 적용

Smartphone Overdependence, Life Satisfaction, and Academic Helplessness in Mothers and Adolescents: An Acter-Partner Interdependence Model Approach

연구목적: 이 연구의 목적은 어머니와 자녀의 스마트폰 과의존이 그들의 삶의 만족도를 매개로 청소년의 학업 무기력에 미치는 영향과 변인 간 관계 내에서 행위자-상대자 효과를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구방법: 한국 아동․청소년패널조사 2018 (Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey [KCYPS]) 5차년도 자료를 활용하여, 청소년 자녀와 아머니 2,106쌍을 대상으로 상호의존모형(APIM)을 적용해 분석하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 어머니-자녀 스마트폰 과의존은 어머니-자녀 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 유의한 자기효과가 나타났으며, 어머니-자녀 스마트폰 과의존이 상대방의 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 상대방효과는 유의하지 않았다. 자기효과 간 크기 비교에서는 자녀의 스마트폰 과의존이 자녀의 삶의 만족도에 미치는 자기효과가 어머니의 스마트폰 과의존이 어머니의 삶의 만족도에 미치는 자기효과보다 더 크게 나타났다. 둘째, 자녀의 스마트폰 과의존이 자녀의 삶의 만족도를 매개하여 학업 무기력에 영향을 미치는 유의한 간접효과가 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 청소년의 학업 무기력을 방지하기 위한 교육 및 상담의 시사점을 논하였으며, 이 연구의 제한점과 향후 연구 방향도 제언하였다.

Objective: The study explored the effects of mothers and their adolescent children’s smartphone overdependence on adolescents’ academic helplessness, mediated by their respective life satisfaction, and sought to examine actor-partner effects among these variables. Methods: Data were drawn from the fifth wave of the 2018 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). A total of 2,106 mother-adolescent dyads were analyzed using the actor-partner interdependence model. Results: Significant actor effects were found, indicating that both mothers and adolescents’ smartphone overdependence negatively affected their own life satisfaction. However, no significant partner effects were found on each other’s life satisfaction. Comparison of the magnitude of actor effects revealed that the negative effect of adolescents’ smartphone overdependence on their own life satisfaction was greater than that of mothers. Furthermore, a significant indirect effect was observed, whereby adolescents’ smartphone overdependence influenced their academic helplessness through life satisfaction. Conclusion: These findings provide implications for educational and counseling interventions to prevent academic helplessness among adolescents. Limitations of the study and directions for future research are suggested.
