중도 시각장애인의 삶의 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

A Phenomenological Study on the Life Experiences of Adults with Acquired Visual Impairments

연구 목적: 비장애인으로 살아가 성인기에 시각장애를 갖게 된 연구 참여자들이 상실의 위기를 극복하고 자신의 삶을 주체적으로 재구성해 나가는 과정의 본질과 의미를 심층적으로 탐구하고자 하였다. 연구 방법: Colaizzi의 현상학적 연구 방법을 적용하였으며, 성인기에 중도 시각장애인이 된 성인 3명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과: 참여자들은 시각 상실의 충격에서 시작하여 가족 및 친구관계의 변화, 당사자 사이에서 찾은 소속감, 직업 변화와 새로운 기술 습득, 종교적 믿음을 통한 의미 부여, 시각장애의 긍정적 재해석, 그리고 미래에 대한 희망과 계획을 통해 삶을 재구성해 나갔다. 결론: 중도 시각장애인을 대상으로 시각 상실이라는 트라우마에서 시작하여 과거 정안인으로서의 경험을 자원으로 활용하며 삶을 재구성하는 과정을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 중도 시각장애인을 위한 지원 서비스와 정책 개발에 있어 단순한 기능적 재활을 넘어서 사회적 관계 형성과 삶의 의미 발견을 촉진하는 통합적 접근의 필요성이 이루어져야 할 것으로 본다.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore in-depth the essence and meaning of the process through which adults, who acquired visual impairment in adulthood after living as sighted individuals overcome the crisis of loss and proactively reconstruct their lives. Methods: Colaizzi’s phenomenological method was applied. In-depth interviews were conducted with three adults(one man and two women) who became visually impaired in adulthood. Results: Beginning with the shock of vision loss, participants reconstructed their lives through changes in family and friendship relationships, a sense of belonging found among peers with similar experiences, career transitions and the acquisition of new skills, the attribution of meaning through religious faith, a positive reinterpretation of visual impairment, and hopes and plans for the future. Conclusion: By analyzing the process through which adults with acquired visual impairment reconstruct their lives-starting from the trauma of vision loss and drawing on their prior experiences al sighted individuals-this study underscores the need for integrated approaches in support services and policy development. Such approaches should move beyond mere functional rehabilitation to foster the formation of social relationships and the discovery of life’s meaning.
