본 연구는 Q 방법론을 활용하여 발달장애 청년의 부모가 인식한 행복한 상황에 따른 유형을 분류하고 유형별 특징을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 발달장애 청년의 어머니를 대상으로 자신이 행복하다고 느낄 때를 주제로 개방형 설문을 진행하여 383개의 진술문을 확보하고 최종적으로 33개의 Q 표본을 선별하였다. 발달장애 청년의 주 돌봄자로서 어머니 13명과 아버지 1명이 참여하여 Q 분류를 진행하였다. 분석 결과 발달장애 청년의 부모가 행복하다고 느끼는 상황은 질적으로 구분되는 3가지 유형이 존재하였다. 1유형은 ‘장애 자녀의 돌봄에서 벗어나 나를 위한 시간을 가질 때’, 2유형은 ‘종교 생활을 하고 통제감을 가지고 편안할 때’, 3유형은 ‘경제적 여유와 성취감을 느낄 때’로 나타났다. 이 결과는 발달장애인의 부모라도 행복에 있어서 중요하게 생각하는 가치가 다르고 자녀의 장애 정도와 가족 응집력의 차이로 행복한 상황에 대한 인식과 해석이 다른 것을 보여준다. 본 연구는 발달장애 청년의 부모가 인식하는 행복을 확인하고 그들이 어떻게 행복을 추구하여 어려움을 극복하는지 확인함으로써 발달장애 청년의 부모를 지원하는 정책이나 지원 서비스를 제공하기 위한 기초자료가 될 것이다.
This study used Q methodology to classify and explore the types of happiness perceived by parents of young adults with developmental disabilities. To identify parents’perceptions, an open-ended questionnaire was administrated to mothers of young adults with developmental disabilities, yielding 383 statements. From these, 33 Q samples were selected. A total of 14 parents (13 mothers and 1 father), all serving as primary caregivers, participated in the Q-sorting process. The analysis revealed three distinct types of situations in which parents felt happiness: (1) when they had personal time apart from caregiving responsibilities, (2) when they engaged in religious life and experienced comfort through a sense of control, and (3) when they enjoyed financial stability and a sense of achievement. These findings suggest that parents of young adults with developmental disabilities hold diverse values regarding happiness, and their perceptions and interpretations vary depending on factors such as the severity of their child’s disability and family cohesion. By highlighting how parents pursue happiness and cope with challenges, this study provides foundational insights for policies and support services aimed at improving the well-being of families of young adults with developmental disabilities.
