The Influence of the Concept of a Good Death and the Consciousness of Biomedical Ethics on the Attitude of Nursing Students in a University Toward Care for the Dying
- 0
Purpose: This study investigated the influence of the concepts of good death and consciousness of biomedical ethics on the attitudes of nursing students toward care for the dying. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 281 nursing students at a university from March 20 to April 5, 2024. Participants completed questionnaires on the concept of a good death, consciousness of biomedical ethics, and attitudes toward care for the dying. Data were analyzed by independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS WIN 29.0. Results: Significant positive correlations were observed between recognition of good death, consciousness of biomedical ethics, and nursing attitude toward end-of-life. The concept of a good death and consciousness of biomedical ethics showed significant positive correlations with attitudes toward care for the dying. The influencing factors were the academic year (β=-.37, p<.001), consciousness of biomedical ethics (β=.17, p=.001), major satisfaction (β=.14, p=.007), and prior education on good death (β=.12, p=.026). Conclusion: These findings suggest the need for structured educational programs on biomedical ethics and the concept of a good death, tailored to the academic year of nursing students to strengthen their attitudes toward care for the dying.
