교수요목기 ｢중등 가사교본｣의 가정교육학적 함의

Educational Implications of the Secondary School Home Economics Textbook during the Syllabus Period

본 연구의 목적은 교수요목기 가정 교과서인 「중등 가사교본」 1-3권을 분석하여 가정교육학적 함의를 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 PDF 사본을 수집⋅정제한 후 내용 분석과 텍스트 네트워크 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 「중등 가사교본」은 표지⋅머리말⋅차례⋅본문의 체계적 구성을 갖추고, 학년이 올라갈수록 단어 수, 연구문제, 삽화와 표가 증가하여 점차 심화되는 나선형 교육과정의 구조를 보였다. 둘째, 내용적 측면에서 ‘사람’, ‘생활’, ‘가정’, ‘가족’, ‘일’이 공통적으로 핵심 개념으로 나타났으며, 학년이 올라갈수록 주제가 일상생활에서 국가적 책무, 더 나아가 가족 경제와 생활문화로 확장되었다. 특히 ‘가정’은 개인⋅국가⋅가족을 포괄하는 교육적 핵심 개념으로 의미가 심화되었다. 셋째, 「중등 가사교본」에 내재된 가정교육학적 함의는 당대 생활상을 사실적으로 반영하고, 과학적 생활 개선과 자기관리 역량을 강조하며, 시민성 및 공동체적 책임을 내면화하도록 하는 동시에, 여성 역할을 강조하면서도 전통적 성역할 규범을 재생산하는 양면성을 지니고, 더 나아가 탐구와 문제해결 중심의 교수⋅학습 방법을 제시했다는 점에서 찾을 수 있다. 본 연구는 현대 가정과교육의 기원과 정체성을 이해할 수 있는 역사적⋅학문 적 근거를 제공하고, 가정과교육을 형성하는 핵심 가치와 교수⋅학습 방식에 대한 통찰을 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the Secondary School Home Economics Textbooks (Volumes 1-3) published during the Syllabus Period and to explore its implications for home economics education. PDF copies of the textbooks were collected and refined, and both content analysis and text network analysis were conducted. The results can be summarized as follows. First, the textbooks consisted of a systematic structure—cover, preface, table of contents, and main text—and demonstrated a spiral curriculum in which the number of words, research questions, illustrations, and tables increased, and the content became more advanced by grade level. Second, in terms of content, the common core concepts were “person,” “life,” “home,” “family,” and “work,” while the themes expanded from everyday life to national responsibility, and further to family economy and culture. In particular, “home” was presented as an educational core concept that encompassed the individual, the family, and the nation. Third, the pedagogical implications included reflecting everyday life at the time, emphasizing scientific improvement of daily practices and self-management, fostering citizenship and communal responsibility, highlighting women’s roles while simultaneously reproducing traditional gender norms, and presenting inquiry-and problem-solving-based approaches to teaching and learning. This study is significant in that it provides historical and academic grounds for understanding the origins and identity of home economics education, while also offering insights into the fundamental values and instructional approaches that continue to shape the field today.
