Research on production technology trends using virtual production technology - Focusing on Visual Special Effects Movies -

This paper surveys literature that attempts to examine the trends of virtual production, focusing on films using visual special effects. In existing film production, it has been difficult to visually realize the time, cost, and the intentions of the early director to present, especially regarding the two areas of shooting and editing. Recent advances in digital technology have provided an environment for virtual production that emphasizes collaborative processes. Therefore, in order to provide a conceptual foundation for the new production environment driven by the development of digital technology, this study first introduces the definition of virtual production, understands the relationship between technology and film genre, and actual digital support. The techniques used are summarized. Resultant is the emphasis on digital technology being beyond a technology for convenience, but requiring understanding, application, and support of the optimized system, i.e., virtual production, in order to be used as a tool to expand human creativity
