There is a tremendous amount of similarities between <The Chaser>, <Seven>, and <The Silence of The Lambs>. They all belong to crime/thriller genre and they all contain psychopath antagonists and detective protagonists who chase the suspects. Throughout the film history, Hollywood film industry has been continuously making crime/thriller genre films and that particular genre has been firmly securing its market. However, the history of making crime/thriller genre film in Korean film industry is short. Korean society has been unacquainted with the term, “psychopath” until the shocking serial killer, Yoo Young Cheol showed up in 2004 who imprinted the concept of psychopath to the public. <The Chaser> was based on Yoo Young Cheol crime case. It is perhaps the first movie in Korean film industry with detailed appearance of psychopath character. Since then, many crime/thriller genre films have been made treating psychopath characters. Psychopath suspects in crime/thriller genre films influence the plot a great deal because the plot heavily depends on what kind of mental illness they suffer, their behavioral aspects, and the pattern of their crime. The protagonists obviously have to respond to antagonist’s crime and that activity adds up to build the plot of the movie. Through that process, the auteur usually approach to reveal th e theme of the movie. In that sense, it becomes a valuable practice to analyze critically acclaimed crime/thriller genre film and its psychopath antagonists in order to develop the plot to higher and more unique level.
