Heterotopia is a concept in human geography elaborated by philosopher Michel Foucault. He wants to describe places and spaces that function in non-hegemonic conditions. These are spaces of otherness. which are irrelevant, simultaneously physical and mental. He descriles the space of a phone call or the moment when you see yourself in the mirror. Foucault uses the term "heterotopia" to describe spaces immediately such as a prison . In general, a heterotopia is a physical representation of a utopia. Foucault explains the link between utopias and heterotopias using the metaphor of a mirror. A mirror is a utopia because the image reflected is a ‘placeless place’, an unreal virtual place that allows one to see one’s own visibility. However, the mirror is also a heterotopia. The heterotopia of the mirror is at once absolutely real, relating with the real space surrounding it.
