Multi-Channel Sound for the Next Generation of Media

Today’s main issues for industry of media are digital broadcasting and 3Dimaging technology. So many motion pictures have been made by 3D technology including [Avatar] in 2009, and have an effect on not only for motion pictures but also for family use devices. Electronic company such as Samsung, LG, Sony have invested to 3D technology for dominating market places and leading the development of contents production. Such trend should meet the condition that sound also be 3 Dimensional as long as imaging. In this thesis, new multi-channel sound system, which will substitute stereo and dolby 5.1 digital surround system, for next generation 3D imaging technology will be discussed. By discussing with accumulated experience and know-how this thesis could be very helpful to the people who works for sound industry. Development of imaging technology bas been lead the development of new sound system. Few years ago Dolby’s new sound system which was called Dolby Atmos has been magnified world-wide. IOSONO and 22.2 channel for NHK system also have been appeared. In this thesis, the influence on film’s aesthetic development will be discussed focussing on changes brought to movie making process by development of next-generation sound technology.
