The space in movies is comprised within a frame and portrays a message from the director through lines, sides, color, textures and others. Space, as an extremely crucial visual element in movies, enables social and psychological expressions of people. Space in movies can be expressed in conventional formats. However it is dramatic pretext what determines such format. Movie space is newly born as narrative space necessary for story telling even if it means mundane space. Narrative space refers to space that is created for the purpose of leading the narrative of movies rather than realistic consideration. The design concept of the space of movies differs according to the theme, story, character, direction intentions and the usage purpose. The selection of production designer differs according to what the movie genre is, what the content of the story is and which roles and definition application that space has in movies. Space has various functional characteristics and, if the production designer is competent, the respective spatial characteristics must be utilized well, matching the purpose. Therefore, in this manuscript, the functional aspects of narrative space will be examined. The purpose lies in studying how to communicate with the audience by creating cinematic definition.
