Issues and Solution for Entertainment Business in Korea

There was suicide of an new actress Jang Ja-yeon on the 7th of March in 2009. The background of her death has veiled the filthy side of entertainment business and caused the fierce debate. The most disputed issues are involved with the social right of entertainers in the entertainment business where they work irregularly, where they are self-employed, where their income varies extremely. International Labor Organization, called ILO suggests that the social security regulations protect entertainers's human right. ILO also finds the way to appropriate them for entertainers. (the article 12) There are rooted structural problems in the overall entertainment business. Prevalent are survival games between TV broadcasting stations and outside productions pursuing only profits by focusing program popularity rating. Movie industry is the same only based on audience numbers and profits. Therefore, entertainers are forced to follow these situations without condition. what is the difference of entertainer's management system of between in Korea and in USA? While the system in USA is the agent system that negotiates and arbitrates the various situations between entertainers and production, that in Korea control everything of entertainers including more private parts. The core of the entertain management system in USA is completely systematic division between management and production. And that makes it the most powerful body in providing casting opportunity and helping close relation between entertainers and productions. With this point of view, this research will investigate the disgraceful circumstances which is the human right of entertainers abused by predominant productions and entertain agencies. Furthermore it will find the solutions.
