Not only film-makers but also outsiders often wonder how certain shots in movies are executed. Unfortunately, there is very shallow database built up within Korean film industry on that subject matter. However, Korean film industry can't be blamed for that because the situation is simply based on supply and demand law. In other words, the cost required for building that database is way too high, but the number of professional film-makers who must have that database is way too low. For that reason, great number of Korean cinematographers and gaffers depend on foreign publications which are rather difficult for them to read, or they directly contact certain film-makers who have the knowledge they need. I'm sure they enjoy doing that a great deal. Through swapping informations in person, they also build up human network. That is certainly an advantage. But what if they spend that time on creativeness? The main purpose of this paper is to make them save the time in getting cinematographic information so they can spend that extra time creating more advanced look of images. I picked a few recent Korean films with stunning visual, then I did thorough cinematographic evaluation on them in series. Series 1 was on "Friend", Series 2 was on "Duelist", and for the Series 3, I chose "Wanee and Junah". I picked "Wanee and Junah" for number of reasons. The cinematographer of the film is Mr. Ki S. Hwang. He previously shot "Friend". As far as cinematography is concerned, he most values delivering the emotions of characters as realistically and flawlessly as possible. The film, "Friend" required tough and masculine image for the tough and masculine story. For the next movie, Mr. Hwang chose a film that's mellow and feminine, totally opposite of "Friend". He wanted to prove that he also is capable of creating images that are soft and high in sensibility. Unless a film is a fantasy or experimental, Mr. Hwang's visual sense is always based on reality. "Friend" was not an exception, even though the dark and tough story about manhood required certain amount of image manipulations like high contrast bleach bypass, and low key lighting. The image itself was quite unrealistic and surreal, but Mr. Hwang believed when the image married the story, the audience would perceive it as real. Unlike "Friend", "Wanee and Junah" was a mellow drama completely based on reality, so Mr. Hwang was able to approach it realistically. Through "Wanee and Junah", Mr. Ki S. Hwang succeeded in showing the character's emotions that were extremely subtle and were mostly hidden underneath the surface.
