As the preference for short-form content, also known as snack culture online, increases, the production and use of short-form dramas are also increasing. The number of users of short-form dramas is currently increasing, mainly in Asia and North America. The current market size of short-form dramas is estimated at 13 trillion won, and considering the growth rate, it is expected that the impact on the global market will be significant. The characteristics of these short-form dramas are that they can be watched for about 1 to 2 minutes and have a vertical screen ratio. In addition, they consist of 50 to 100 episodes and cost about 500 to 1,000 won per episode. Global Chinese short-form drama companies that grew based on web novels are expanding their markets beyond the United States to Asia. In Japan, companies and broadcasters are participating in the production of short-form dramas. In Korea, short-form drama platforms began to emerge in late 2024 and are still in the initial stages. In order to develop the Korean video industry, it is necessary to produce short-form dramas of various genres through securing intellectual property rights such as webtoons, web novels, and creations. To achieve this, the government needs continued support and tax benefits.
